Frequently Asked Questions
Are parents involved in adolescent and young adult care?

Yes, parents play an important role in helping adolescents move forward in their recovery.

Patients younger than 18 years old do need parental consent, as well as support and involvement. There are certain areas of healthcare that fall under the realm of confidential care based on state and federal law. I will always respect and honor these protections. There are also limits to confidentiality for patients under 18 who express suicidal thoughts or when other serious matters arise which require a parent’s knowledge and involvement.
Patient consent is needed for those over 18 years, but I do welcome parental involvement.

Does Dr. Hartman work with my other team members-doctors, therapists, dietitians, psychiatrist?

Yes, I strongly believe that collaborative care is the best care. With your consent, I partner with the other members of your team.

Will Dr. Hartman be my primary care physician (PCP)?

Every patient does need to have their own primary care doctor who will help support the preventive care (ex: check-ups, vaccines) and can see you for sick visits (ex: sore throat, cough). I will work closely with your primary care doctor as we navigate your journey.
